Who doesn’t like basketball? I do. I know why you don’t.
My oh my. I have so much to say about so many things. But I’m going to try to stick to one topic for as long as possible. Basketball.
Maybe I shouldn’t pick basketball. This day and age it doesn’t seem like too many Americans are interested in the fantastic game. I’m a huge fan but can easily see why so many people have a disdain for this sport. I look at my team, it hurts to say I’m a fan of the Sixers, and can see dozens of ways and reasons Philly (Philadelphia PA for all you people living in a closet or another nation) no longer cares about them.
The first reason is easy. They stink. Absolutely terrible. They are worse than their 14-24 record would indicate. Currently they are on a 7 game losing streak, with road games against Houston and Boston upcoming. They recently lost at home to a Milwaukee team that played like crap without its best player(Redd). I was at that game becoming more and more enraged at the franchise.
I wasn’t even annoyed with their latest awful loss. It was the fact that they traded their only outside shooter and fan favorite Kyle Korver to save some money, then they raised the price of beer! So as they are saving millions of dollars to lose game after game (1-7 without Korver) they expect me to spend more on beer? Not only did they jack up the price from an already expensive $6 a beer to an unaffordable $7.50, they are 25% smaller, 16oz to 12oz,. The wonderful local beer Yuengling Black and Tan was replaced by a Canadian beer, Molson.
I turned to my 71 year old Dad after finding this out and said, “Our tradition is broken, we need a change.”
He looked at me and said, “Drink pre-game in the parking lot?” And that’s one reason why I still love basketball.
